Wait for the reading to stabilise — usually under ten seconds. The most common source of noise in a record is saving too early.
Avoid sampling immediately after heavy rain, or in dust-dry conditions, if you want the reading to be comparable to the rest of the season.
Clean the probe between paddocks so you are not carrying soil, and therefore salts, from one to another.
Remember: moisture, EC and temperature are measured; pH and NPK on the screen are indicative values derived from conductivity.
